
Along with Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Bristol, Leeds is in contention for the benefit of housing the MoJ’s new headquarters, which are scheduled to move from London to a regional area in its entirety by 2013, as part of a move by the government to cut costs.
Leeds has been marketing itself aggressively to the MoJ and the UK Government, said the Deputy Leader of the Leeds City Council, though he would not reveal whether this effort was being made in relation to the new office of the MoJ or with regard to something else.

While the MoJ has not officially decided between the cities that have been shortlisted, a spokesperson stated that the criteria that will be key in the determination will be how much value exists in the purchase, playing off costs and the business location against each other.
The Government would be best placed if it could find a space or building that can house a 250,000 sq. ft. complex, as the MoJ is one of the biggest Government departments. Its minimum requirements are 85,000 sq. ft., though this will increase by 2013, when the expansion is finally achieved.
